Murdoch University student Odgerel Bumandalai’s Future Food Systems CRC top-up PhD scholarship supports her doctoral research into the use of cold-plasma technology to extend the safe shelf life of fresh spirulina. Bumandalai is testing different types of cold-plasma application methods and assessing the nutrient content of plasma-treated spirulina in different forms of end product. The project will further develop her skills in microbiology (food safety), food production and food processing. Bumandalai’s co-supervisors are Professor Navid Moheimani, a senior algal technical specialist, and food safety expert Professor Kirsty Bayliss. Her CRC top-up scholarship runs until 31 December 2024. Read more about Odgerel Bumandalai and her PhD.
