Hasan Uz Zaman Raihan is a PhD student at the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment, Western Sydney University, under the supervision of Distinguished Professor David Tissue. He is currently engaged in the FFS research project titled “Establishing a National Hub for Smart Greenhouse Technology – Energy Saving Films”. Hasan completed his bachelor’s degree in agriculture and Masters in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Bangladesh. Prior to pursuing his doctoral studies, he served as a scientist at the Plant Breeding Division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute since 2012. During his tenure, Hasan contributed significantly to various research projects focused on developing high-yielding cereal crop varieties with abiotic stress (salt and drought) tolerance. His current PhD research project centres on investigating the effects of smart glasshouse films on photosynthesis, protein component biosynthesis, and quality of vegetables. Hasan recognises the potential of glasshouse films to significantly reduce energy costs, thereby enhancing food security and increasing farmers’ profitability.
