Husnain Butt is a PhD student based at Western Sydney University, Hawkesbury campus. Husnain’s PhD project is titled “Light-mediated regulation of carotenoids that enable photoprotection to boost crop performance”. His PhD research hypothesizes that “The quality of light impacts the biosynthesis of foliar carotenoids, photoprotection and plant vigour”.
Chapter one of this thesis will identify the mechanisms that regulate carotenoid biosynthesis and photoprotection in different coloured tomato crop varieties. Chapter two aims to explore how light quality affects Arabidopsis foliar photoprotection and above to below ground crop architecture and photoprotection, whilst Chapter three will investigate the influence of light quality on carotenoid mediating signalling and photoprotection in different coloured Capsicum varieties.
