Ganjar Saefurahman Ruhiyat is a PhD candidate based at Perth’s Murdoch University. His doctoral thesis is developing a biorefinery approach of a locally isolated halotolerant microalgal species for high-value functional metabolites. “I am very excited about my project because I can study and develop a novel, more preferable, and potential sustainable source of high-value functional food ingredients, such as carotenoids and omega-3 oils”, he says. Ganjar’s supervisory team includes Professor Navid R. Moheimani, Dr. Damian Laird, Professor Parisa A. Bahri, and Dr. Ashiwin Vadiveloo (Murdoch University). He is the recipient of a Future Food Systems CRC top-up scholarship.
